General Management In-Basket (GMIB)
WHAT IS THE GMIB?
The GMIB is the most widely used management assessment exercise in the country. It consists of 15 carefully selected problems that have been proven to separate effective managers from those who are destined for less than excellence. The GMIB is not for those who think a 15-30 minute multiple choice test, leadership survey, or interview can do the job. It has been well established that simulation testing provides far more reliable and valid results; and within the world of simulation testing, the GMIB is the premier instrument for assessing managerial skills and abilities.

POSITIONS USED FOR?
The GMIB is used for any management job in either the private or public sector. There are multiple versions of the test, each with multiple parallel forms. While the Manager/Executive version is the most widely used, we recommend modified versions for certain specialized groups. Available versions include:

The GMIB consists of 15 realistic managerial problems consisting of memos and letters. Assessees must provide a written analysis of the management issues involved in each, and explain the actions they would take. They must also write memos and letters if that is what they would do on the job. Assessees are given 2 3/4 hours to complete the test (some specialized versions are three hours long -- please inquire when ordering). The GMIB is available online. In special situations, the paper/pencil form may be ordered.
GMIB NATIONAL DATA BASE
The GMIB is the only in-basket test for which there is a national data base. This is another way of saying the GMIB has national norms. The benefit of having norms is that you can compare the candidate's total score and factor scores to other managers on a national level. Does the candidate have above average or below average leadership skills? Demonstrate a style that fits with your organization? Identify priorities and handle them effectively? Show skill in managing internal conflict? Take action and exert management control when necessary? The GMIB answers such questions.
SCORING AND REPORTING OF RESULTS
The GMIB has explicit scoring criteria for each problem. The GMIB scoring system innovated objective scoring criteria for narrative response format tests. At MPS, our highly trained raters do all of the scoring for you. Results are supplied via email in pdf format. The results show you how well your candidates scored relative to the national norms.
GMIB CAREER DEVELOPMENT REPORTS
Career Development (feedback) Reports are supplied for each candidate tested. GMIB Career Development Reports describe and evaluate the assessee's performance within the factors measured by the GMIB. In addition, they: (1) identify developmental areas that should be targeted for improvement; and (2) establish specific learning objectives.
