Work Team Simulator (WTS)
WHAT IS THE WTS?
The Work Team Simulator (WTS) is designed to identify individual contributors who seek an empowered work environment. High producing teams have members who strive to improve, who value quality, who assume responsibility, and who work cooperatively in solving problems and meeting team goals. The WTS is designed to identify such individuals, thereby permitting a more empowered, productive, flatter organizational structure. The WTS consists of five common, job-related scenarios that separate those who prefer to work cooperatively in solving problems and making decisions that are best for the organization from those who are more comfortable in a highly structured, autocratic organizational structure that limits their personal responsibility. Effective work team members:
>>>>• Actively participate in solving problems
>>>>• Are not overly influenced by any one individual's desires or interests
>>>>• Take actions which show sensitivity toward others
>>>>• Take actions which lead to group cohesiveness and high morale
>>>>• Strive to do what is best for the organization
POSITIONS USED FOR?
The WTS is used for any team member job in either the private or public sector. There are multiple versions of the test. The Blue-Collar and Clerical versions are the most widely used, but modified versions are recommended for certain occupational groups. MPS consultants will assist you in selecting the version that is most appropriate for your situation.
WTS USED FOR:
>>>• Blue-collar employees
>>>• Clerical employees
>>>• Fire Fighters
>>>• Police Officers
>>>• Corrections Officers
>>>• Deputy Sheriffs
>>>• Transit agency employees
>>>• Gas company employees
>>>• Electric company employees
TEST FORMAT
The WTS consists of five realistic problem situations involving interactions among the employees and/or their supervisor in a hypothetical organization. The test comes in booklet format and poses specific questions about each situation. Assessees must describe what they would actually say or do in dealing with each problem or situation. Like the GMIB and SupSim, candidate acceptance of this test has been high. Total test time is 75 minutes.
WTS NATIONAL DATA BASE
As with the GMIB and SupSim, the WTS has national norms. This permits you to compare the candidate's total score and factor scores to others on a national level. Does the candidate have below average or above average group decision making skills? Above average or below average team relations skills? These areas are critical to success and the WTS answers these questions.
SCORING AND REPORTING OF RESULTS
The WTS has explicit scoring criteria for each problem. At MPS, our highly trained raters do all of the scoring for you. Results are reported in the form of a rank-ordered list of candidates and an individual bar-chart profile comparing each candidate to the national data base. Feedback Reports describing characteristics of very high, high, above average, average, below average, low and very low scoring assessees, and illustrating the assessee's scores, are included along with the bar-chart profiles at no extra cost.
SOME WTS ISSUES
>>>• Decision Making: Cooperation vs. competition
>>>• Work Environment: Preferred style of supervision
>>>• Quality: Commitment to organizational goals
>>>• Dealing with others: Harmony vs. team success
>>>• Rivalries: Goals of the team vs. personal goals
